James Imagines the Ultimate Mustang RTR Spec 1 with the Built by RTR Program

Meet the Owner of this 2021 Mustang RTR Spec 1

James is the kind of enthusiast who knows exactly what he wants out of a Mustang. Style, presence, and personality mattered just as much as performance. After watching RTR Mustangs hit the streets, he decided it was time to bring home one for himself a few years ago.

Working with RTR Authorized Dealer Huntersville Ford, James picked up his 2021 Mustang RTR Spec 1. From there, James utilized the car, learning the ins and outs of everything from daily driving to all-out track days, even adding a Ford Performance supercharger.

After enjoying his hot rod in our classic RTR Spec 1 form (with a bit of extra power) on and off the track, he decided it was time to take the car to the next level. Utilizing the Built By RTR program in-house at the RTR Lab in Charlotte, North Carolina, where we helped plan out the next evolution of James’ Mustang RTR.

The Built by RTR Program gave him the chance to collaborate with the same team responsible for developing RTR’s championship-winning Mustangs and Broncos, and he didn’t hesitate.

Building Something Even Wilder

James wanted something bolder, wider, and unmistakably personalized to fit his styell, and the team at RTR was able to guide him every step of the way.

The 2018-2023 RTR Widebody Fender Flares was the centerpiece of his additions. With widened fenders, aggressive lines, and a stance that looks ready to pounce, the widebody turned the build from stylish to show-stopping. It completely redefines the presence of his 2021 Mustang RTR Spec 1 and gives the car an unmistakable look, whether it’s hard-parked or ripping on the track.

To fill out the widebody properly, James selected a set of RTR Aero 7 forged wheels and we powder-coated them in Championship White (the same color featured on Chelsea DeNofa’s 2023 Mustang RTR Spec 5-FD). Their finish plays perfectly off the car’s carbonized gray metallic color and gives the stance a planted, high-performance look that says it’s ready for anything. 

Paired with the already existing Mustang RTR Spec 1 package, these choices created a car that stands out even by our standards.
