What Is the Mustang Drift Brake?

The Drift Brake is an electronic handbrake integrated into the center console of 7th Generation Mustang models equipped with the Performance Package. Unlike a traditional parking brake, it’s designed specifically to allow the driver to quickly and safely initiate oversteer for drifting maneuvers.

But here’s the kicker: this isn’t just an on/off switch. Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Chelsea DeNofa worked closely with Ford engineers during development to ensure the system is modulated, meaning you can apply different levels of braking pressure as needed.

For the first time in history, Ford has equipped a mass-production Mustang with a drift-focused feature right from the factory. This isn’t an aftermarket gimmick—it’s a purpose-built feature developed in collaboration with professional drifters who know what it takes to make a Mustang get sideways.

Whether you're a seasoned drifter or just curious about learning new driving skills, the Drift Brake adds a whole new layer of fun and functionality to your Mustang ownership experience.
