From Pell City with Love: Ben Hobson's Full-Circle Drift Homecoming

While most of us can only dream of drifting around the streets of our hometown legally in any vehicle, RTR Drift Team Formula Drift driver Ben Hobson recently made this dream his reality in the latest feature video from RTR Vehicles titled “From Pell City with Love.”

After Mayor Bill Pruitt grants Ben the key to the city, Ben hops in his 810HP Mustang RTR Spec 3 and turns the town into his personal playground with future Mrs. Hobson, Sunny, strapped into the passenger seat. It is equal parts homecoming, love letter, and full-send celebration of the community that raised him.

Why Pell City Matters

For Ben, Pell City is more than just another line on his stat sheet. It’s where he discovered motorsport, competition, and the kind of drive that eventually led him to Formula Drift. Coming home as an RTR driver and professional athlete made this project feel like a full-circle moment.

Pell City has always pushed Ben forward. Now he gets to return the favor with a project that puts the spotlight back on the place that shaped him. With a population of around 15,000, Ben is the hometown hero.

The Mayor, the Key, and the Perfect Ben Reaction

The film opens with Ben visiting the Pell City Steakhouse Restaurant with Sunny. There, he gets a ring from Pell City Mayor Bill Pruitt asking him to meet. The mayor welcomes him home and presents him with a ceremonial key to the city. He even permits Ben to drive anywhere he wants. There is just one condition: keep the noise down.

Ben Hobson, quiet? We have yet to see the day.

Cut to the Mustang RTR erupting into a cloud of smoke, echoing through the streets with zero hesitation. Ben hits apexes in corners, rips 360’s in front of the courthouse, and leaves his mark on Main Street. It is classic Ben. It is pure RTR energy. And it is exactly the tone that carries through the entire video.

Drifting Through Memory Lane

The video takes Ben through some of the most meaningful spots from his past, like his junior high school, a beloved hometown steak restaurant, and of course the back roads that he now had permission to get rowdy on from the mayor.

One of the most memorable stops is his old junior high school. Ben drifts through the parking lot, ripping through areas he once walked as a kid.

No hometown drift story is complete without hitting the familiar back roads. Ben puts down clean, touge-style runs on the same stretches of pavement that influenced his early driving instincts. The scenery is quiet and rural, but the Mustang RTR brings the energy.

At the heart of it all, “From Pell City with Love” is more than entertainment. It is Ben saying thank you to the people and places that helped build him. It is a town embracing one of its own with pride. It is RTR supporting a driver who stays grounded and authentic no matter how big the stage gets.

A Love Letter on Four Wheels

“From Pell City with Love” is not just a drift showcase. It is a reminder that no matter how far you go, where you came from is part of the ride. For Ben, Pell City, Alabama, is home. For RTR, it is another example of how car culture brings people together in meaningful ways from all over the world, no matter how small the town you come from.
